Traumatic events have occurred throughout history and our time is no exception. The majority of those affected by traumatic events will manage to cope and eventually live full lives. Others will relive their traumas and develop substantial emotional problems in the wake of these events. Many of these individuals will suffer posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a disorder that often appears within three months of a traumatic event, but sometimes even years later. We hope our website will help those struggling with the aftermath of recent or past traumatic events. There is a lot of information on this site, so remember to look at both the right and left-hand menu options as you read. In addition to up-to-date information on PTSD and its treatment, free on-line resources we offer include: PTSD Symptom Checklist. A computer cannot replace diagnosis by a qualified clinician but this screening test can help identify the presence of symptoms. If your score indicates that you may be experiencing PTSD, we strongly encourage you to seek further evaluation because there are effective treatments for PTSD. Clinician Referral Listing You can locate a nearby clinician using our free on-line referral network resource or through the helpful links and resources. This list of resources leads you to other organizations providing PTSD information on the Internet. Brief Recovery Program (BRP) for Trauma Survivors This therapist training manual, written by Edna B. Foa and David S. Riggs, is designed for mental health professionals with experience in the specific procedures included in the program. |
